Natural Outdoor Family Photo Session | Family Photography in Kenley, South London

There’s something about the simple act of being outside that really helps kids (and adults) relax and forget they are being photographed. I think it’s because, like my documentary approach to photographing families, outdoor play is by its very nature, unstructured and unscripted. Activities aren’t defined by adults (including me), and so you can’t help but let your individual characters, as well as how you play and interact with each other, shine through.

With a big home renovation going on, this family was keen for me photograph them enjoying a typical Sunday morning, where getting out of the house is top of the list. A spot of badminton in the garden with mum, a bounce on trampoline, a game of chase, exploring their favourite woodland and climbing trees - all made for a wonderful, high energy, and dare I say, enjoyable family photo session.
