Before your session
When should I book my session?
I would advise that you get in touch a couple of months before you would like your session, especially during the busy seasons of Spring, Summer and Autumn. Newborn sessions are ideally booked after the 20 week scan, and between 34-36 weeks is an ideal time to schedule a maternity shoot. To avoid disappointment, please book your event photography as soon as you’ve confirmed the date. Contact me to find out about availability.
When is the best time for a newborn session?
Gorgeous, sleepy, curly newborn images, are best captured within the first ten days of life but I am happy to photograph babies at any age.
Can siblings be involved in a newborn session?
Of course! For me it’s important that all the family are included, especially older siblings who perhaps more than any other time in their young lives need to feel they are an important part of the new family dynamic. However, should you feel your toddler might need more time to establish a bond with their new brother or sister, I would suggest scheduling your session when baby is around six weeks old. There is no point forcing things too early on and so allowing for some settling in time will give me a better chance of capturing some genuine moments of affection and curiosity.
Do you have a studio?
No. I shoot on location or in your home as I feel it's important to capture images in a place that holds importance for you and I prefer to work with natural light. I also find that younger children tend to feel more comfortable when they are in a familiar and fun environment. I can recommend a number of picturesque locations in the local area. Please note that some locations, such as the Mayfield Lavender Fields in Carshalton, require a fee which will be included in your quote at the time of booking.
Do you photograph events such as christenings, birthday parties and family gatherings?
Yes! I love photographing events in a natural and candid style but can also capture more traditional photographs of your family and guests if requested. I charge a fee of £300.00 which covers my time photographing your event, professional editing and re-touching of images plus around 100+ print ready, high resolution digital files for you to download. Find out more about my christening and baptism photography sessions and prices.
How much do you charge?
Prices depend on the type of session and photography package you choose. My family and newborn session fee is £50.00. After you've viewed your gallery of images you can choose from four digital and print packages which start at £150.00. For events such as christenings my fee is £299.00 which covers my time photographing your event, professional editing of images plus around 100+ print ready, high resolution digital files for you to download. It's as simple as that! Take a look at my children, families, maternity and newborns or christening photography pricing for further details.
Do you offer gift vouchers?
Yes! Perfect for expectant mums and dads, young families and growing families, the gift of beautiful photographs is truly unique and will be cherished by every member of the family for decades to come. Find out more.

What happens if the weather turns bad or my child is ill?
The day before an outdoor session I'll check the weather forecast and if it's not looking good I'll get in touch to re-schedule. Please note that cloudy days are absolutely fine and can actually add a lovely softness to your images. If someone becomes unexpectedly ill, please get in touch as soon as possible to re-schedule your session.
How should I prepare for the session?
Relax! Depending on the type of session you book, I'll give you lots of advice about how to prepare, including what to wear, how to prepare your home or what you might need to bring with you for an outdoor session.
At your session
What happens on the day?
I'll meet you and your family either at home or in a pre-planned outdoor location. I'll usually spend the first 10 minutes or so just getting to know you and your children before the camera appears. I don't set a strict time limit on the session so if your child needs a bit more time to get used to me or just run off a bit of energy that's absolutely fine.
Once the camera appears I’ll encourage you all to explore and have fun, often asking the children to suggest their favourite games and activities. I will gently direct you but this mainly involves making sure you're all in the best light and you're nice and close together. My aim is to capture natural smiles and family moments - nothing too forced or fake!
What should I bring to an outdoor photography session?
We'll probably move around our location a bit so it's best to travel light but there are couple of things I would recommend you pack:
spare outfits (but leave them in the car)
snacks and drinks of the non-sticky staining variety
If we're heading outdoors, I'll often bring a blanket or something to sit on in case the ground is damp but if you have your own favourite picnic blanket feel free to bring it along.
What time of the day will the session be?
If we're heading outdoors I prefer to hold sessions as early or as late in the day as possible (nap times permitting). This is because the light is softer and more flattering. If I'm coming to your home the time of the day is less important and so these sessions can be scheduled for any time that suits your family.
How long will the session last?
I generally find that around two hours is enough time for me to capture a range of images for a typical family, whether at home or outdoors. I allow plenty of time for re-fueling breaks and I won't end the session until I feel I have captured the variety of images we're aiming for.
After your session
How long does it take before I can see my images?
Within two to three weeks but usually less, I'll provide you with a private online viewing gallery of watermarked images from which you can choose your photography products package. Your viewing gallery will be live for ten days.
How many images can I expect to receive in my viewing gallery?
Every session is unique, as well as every event, so I don't guarantee a set number of images. As a guide, from a typical family or newborn session you can expect 30+ images and around 100+ images from an event such as a christening. I'll take literally hundreds of shots at your session but will only present you with the very best.
How will I receive my high resolution digital images?
Once you've made your selection and purchased your images, you'll receive a link from which you can download your photographs directly to your own devices. I don't supply USB sticks or CDs which helps me to keep my prices more affordable!
When do I need to make a final selection?
For family and newborn sessions ask that you finalise your purchase within ten days of receiving your online viewing gallery so that I can start processing your order as soon as possible. If you should need more time this can be negotiated but I'm not able to keep galleries online indefinitely.
How long will it take for me to receive my photography products?
Once you have made your selection of photography products and payment has been received, digital files will be available to you via a download link to within 48 hours. Please allow around two weeks for your prints. Christening photography images will be available for you to download no later than three weeks after the event.
